Hacienda Merida fishing dock left, Concepcion Volcano middle and the slopes of the Maderas to the right.

Hacienda Mérida is an accessible hotel.

We have made the commitment and investment to allow everyone to enjoy the beauties of Ometepe and to participate in our mission for sustainable and responsible living. The restaurant/sitting area has ramped access as do the rooms on the second floor (even if you are not staying up here, the view of the lake is beautiful and it's a great place to read). For the day visitor or dorm user, there is a communal bathroom, shower, and sink designed for easy wheelchair use.

Health and Safety

We want your stay here to be safe and enjoyable. Here's what we have done with the collaboration of our guests to ensure that this is the case.

Our Rules:

We have two simple rules:

Please keep these rules in mind when making your reservations. If you want a place to party, this is not it.

These rules are for the benefit of our guests. Our main concerns are your safety, your pleasure, and your sleep. If you do not obey these rules, we will ask you to leave.

Drugs and Alcohol:

Along with prohibiting illegal drugs, we also do not sell hard liquor. Our promotion of healthy living includes deterring drug abuse and heavy drinking. We have had to kick out guests who were so intoxicated from drugs and/or alcohol that one tried to have intercourse with our donkey Fiona, another burned cigarettes on other guests' arms, and another sexually assaulted a woman (and was subsequently arrested). We cannot tolerate this kind of behavior; our preventative measures include not serving hard liquor and having a corking charge if you bring your bottles in ($5 US for a small bottle and $10 for a large bottle); the money collected from the corking charge goes towards supporting our bilingual school. After 9pm the kitchen shuts down and beer and wine cannot be purchased. These measures are to ensure that your stay here will be safe and enjoyable.

We have two security guards in uniform that patrol Hacienda Merida during the evenings and at night. We also have lockers that guests can use to safeguard their valuables. The island is quite safe, but it is important to us to take every precaution to ensure your security.

During your stay at Hacienda Merida, you'll notice that we maintain very sanitary conditions:
